@ The Meadowlands!

tournament_liberty.jpg

The Barclays tournament will be held in the Meadowlands, NJ from August 25-30. The tournament will be held at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, NJ. This is a very important tournament because the best golfers in the world will be here and it is the first challenge in the PGA playoffs for the FedEx Cup.

This golf course is unlike anything else. The Statue of Liberty is less than 1000 yards off the 18th green, there are views of the Manhattan skyline, the New York Harbor, and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. These backdrops make this golf outing an experience like no other. Tickets are still available for the tournament and you can sign up to be a volunteer for the tournament. DAVID BECKHAM IS BACK!!!!!

And At The Meadowlands...

He’s BACKKKK!

David Beckham is back and he was at the Meadowlands! This was his first time back since the Italian League’s season finale on May 31st. Cheers and boos seemed to mix in the crowd at Giants Stadium last night. Many were ecstatic and trying to catch a glimpse of the star screaming, “We love you David” while some were booing and taunting “We love your wife.” The attendance was over 23,000 however many left disappointed after the game because they were hoping for a repeat of the Red Bulls 5-4 win over LA two years ago.

A tough loss last night for the NY/NJ Red Bulls in what seemed to be an effortless battle for most of the night. True fans stayed glued to their seats with the anticipation of a Red Bulls goal in what was looking like a 3-0 loss. In the 87th minute Juan Pablo Angel, Red Bulls’ stricker, scored on a penalty kick to finally put the Red Bulls on the board. Again in the 90th minute the Red Bulls were issued another penalty kick but failed to convert. The LA Galaxy won 3-1 making this their fourth straight win and their first in New York since 2000. Goals were scored by Alecko Eskandarian in the third minute, Landon Donovan in the 31st minute, and Eddie Lewis in the 45th minute. The Red Bulls return home on August 5th versus W Connection (Trinidad & Tobago).

Unique Birds in the Heart of the Meadowlands

Birding is a passion of mine. It was amazing to be able to witness the many different species of birds that are in the Meadowlands. I took a pontoon boat tour and the amount of birds we came across was unbelievable. They ranged from mallards to geese to swans and even black and ruddy ducks. Surprisingly enough I was also able to see a red tailed hawk and the endangered Northern Harrier. The rich marshes are definitely a hidden wonder!

I was mesmerized at the beautiful views and landscapes from out on the Hackensack River as well as New York City as a backdrop to the marshes, reeds and wetlands. I could not believe that in the heart of the Meadowlands lies a great birding site. The pontoon boat tours were great because I was able to learn about the history of the land and get a close up view of the wildlife.

I look forward to going back before the summer is over as well as next spring so that I will be able to see the tall wading birds, and the egrets and herons when they make their annual visit to the Meadowlands.

Traveling was simple because after my trip the amount of dining choices I had was astonishing. It didn’t require driving far and the prices were very reasonable. I could find just about any type of restaurant that I wanted. My family and I were thinking about taking an expedition into New York since it is so close but there’s lots t do right here that we decided to stay.
